CEO Gary Guarisco Receives 2018 Threads of Hope Award

Walnut Creek, CA (November 26, 2018) — This year, Gary Guarisco, CEO of PTLA Real Estate Group, will receive Diablo Magazine’s Annual Threads of Hope Award. The prestigious award has recognized community members with outstanding contributions to fields such as the arts, education, families, and more since 1995. Previous recipients include Olympic Gold Medalist Kristi Yamaguchi for the Always Dream Foundation and Oakland A’s catcher Stephen Vogt for the School of Imagination, Dublin. Guarisco will receive the award this year for his work with Safe Refuge for Children and Families, for which he serves as Chairman of the Board.

According to their website, the mission of Safe Refuge is “to protect children from potential neglect or abuse arising from crisis by providing them with a safe, stable temporary home and reuniting the family as quickly as possible when crisis is resolved.” Ultimately, they strive to keep children out of the foster care system and with their families. Guarisco’s involvement traces back to 2015, when he first learned of the program. “I was looking for a place to drop in and serve, and when I heard about Safe Refuge, it just grabbed me,” he said.

In its seven years in operation, Safe Refuge for Children and Families has expanded into 15 counties in California, and they aim to grow even more. “We aren’t going to fix homelessness, we aren’t going to fix family problems, but we provide a safety net: time,” said Guarisco. “There are so many ways for us to continue growing. The need is there, so now we work to find the resources to meet it.”

The ceremony will be held on Thursday, December 6th at the Orinda Theatre. To RSVP for the event, visit www.diablomag.com/threadsrsvp.
